ROCKFORD — The Music Academy in Rockford announced Wednesday it has received a $9,532 grant from the Community Foundation of Northern Illinois.

The grant was awarded for the Academy’s “A Collaborating Community” program, which features summer concerts from multiple levels of area orchestras at Sinnissippi Park. Orchestras performing together include the Rock Valley College and Community Orchestra, plus students from three string orchestras at the Music Academy and their faculty members.

This year’s concert will be held in August in the Sinnissippi Band Shell. The Music Academy will present the findings its “A Collaborating Community” project at the Suzuki Association of the Americas Biennial conference in Minnesota this May.

The Music Academy in Rockford is a non-profit community school of music “dedicated to providing high quality, affordable instruction and performance opportunities to Academy students, regardless of age or ability.”
