Police officer shoots armed suspect at Dixon High School

DIXON — One person was shot by a police officer after the suspect opened fired at Dixon High School Wednesday morning.

According to authorities, the incident unfolded when a school resource officer attempted to detain a male who police say brought a gun onto school property. The suspect refused to comply with the officer and allegedly opened fire. The officer returned fire and injured the gunman.

The suspect is now in custody. His injuries are non-life threatening. It is unclear whether the incident took place inside the school or outside the building.

No other students or staff were injured. Dixon High School has been evacuated as the investigation is conducted. All other Dixon schools are on lockdown as of this report.
