Four killed in plane crash near Monroe

Staff Report

MONROE, Wis. — Four people are confirmed dead after a small plan crashed near Monroe, Wisconsin, last weekend, the Green County Sheriff’s Office confirmed Monday.

Authorities say the crash occurred about a mile from the Monroe Municipal Airport. According to Sheriff Mark Rohloff, a grandmother, her 17-year-old granddaughter, 13-year-old grandson and the teens’ mother were aboard the Cessna 182T when it went down in a field around noon Sunday. The plane was approaching Monroe after taking off from Kenosha Regional Airport earlier in the day.

The sheriff’s department reported that witnesses saw flames coming from the plane and that it lost power as it descended toward the field and hit some trees. The crash caused a fire that was extinguished by firefighters.

The crash is under investigation by federal authorities. R.
