SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) — The Illinois Judges Association is introducing a schools program to help young people learn how to interact with police.

The program is called “Your Future, Your Choice.” It includes video clips from law enforcement officials and a man who went to prison at age 15 for 25 years.

Appellate Court Justice Eileen O’Neill Burke is coordinating the project. She says local judges will visit schools and lead discussions on “how being with the wrong people can land you in jail.”
The video includes Chicago Police Superintendent Eddie Johnson. He explains what behaviors cause police to approach young people and how to interact with police.

Cook County State’s Attorney Kim Foxx explains the court system and Marshan Allen describes his 25 years in prison after a robbery that caused two deaths.
