East, Guilford impress in Tip-Off Classic

Staff Report

ROCKFORD – East won in a blowout Friday, while Guilford positioned itself for a 205 Tip-Off Classic title if the E-Rabs should slip up on Saturday.

The E-Rabs, playing for the first time since knocking Indianapolis Pike on Monday, raced out to a 27-10 first-quarter lead against Elgin Larkin and cruised to a 76-49 victory. Sincere Parker again led the way with 22 points, but three other E-Rabs reached double-figures as well – Chris Burnell, 15; Sha’den Clanton and Andres Thompson, 13 each.

East can wrap up its first 205 Tip-Off Classic title by beating Chicago Hyde Park and Huntington Beach Marina on Saturday.

If the E-Rabs slip up in either game, the Tip-Off champion could be the Guilford Vikings.

The Vikings knocked off Chicago Perspectives, 60-45, in the morning and then handed Marina its first loss with a come-from-behind 43-41 win in the afternoon.

District 205 teams are 8-4 so far in the tournament. Jefferson and East each play twice Saturday. R.
