Girls Hoops: Boylan blows past Guilford; Hono handles Belvidere

ROCKFORD – The Boylan Titans girls basketball team picked up where they left off last season by cruising to a 60-36 win over Guilford to open NIC-10 Conference play Tuesday.

After a chippy couple of minutes, Boylan began running past the young Vikings and cruised to 24-3 lead. The Titans led 44-16 at halftime.

Boylan slowed the pace down in the third but still managed to lead 56-25 going into the final frame. Junior Peyton Kennedy led the game in scoring with 18 points. Kyleigh Thomas led Guilford with 14 points. Boylan held Kate Dennis, a threat from behind the three-point line, to 7 points.

Boylan improved to 5-0. Guilford falls to 2-1.

In other NIC-10 action, Jordan King poured in 26 points for Hononegah in the Indians’ 73-25 win over Belvidere. Maya Smith scored 15 for the Bucs.

Nya Taylor’s 12 points helped coach Darryl Watkins’ Knights cruise past Jefferson 64-26, while East squeaked by Freeport 52-49. East’s Halee Bergstrom led all scorers with 19 points. Tone Lacy scored 17 for Freeport. R.
