Man arrested in gas station burglary

ROCKFORD – A Rockford man has been arrested in connection with a burglary that occurred early Tuesday near downtown.

Darion Turley, 19, was arrested Thursday afternoon after Rockford Police Officers from the Rockford Housing Authority Unit responded to an apartment in the 1500 Meadow Court in reference to a suspicious subject. As officers were approaching the apartment, they say Turley fled on foot. Officers took him into custody after a brief chase.

Police say officers recognized Turley as individual they had previously viewed in surveillance video images from the burglary at the Mobil gas station at 360 College Ave.

Detectives from the Financial & Property Crimes Unit conducted a follow-up investigation.  The Winnebago County State’s Attorney’s Office reviewed the case and authorized charges of burglary and felony criminal damage to property. He is also charged with T aggravated assault to a peace officer and resisting police.

Turley is lodged in the Winnebago County Jail without bond. R.
