Boys Hoops: East knocks off Boylan to stay unbeaten

ROCKFORD —  The East E-Rabs improved to 7-0 by beating Boylan 59-50 in NIC-10 boys basketball action Wednesday.

It was East’s first home win over Boylan since 1995. The E-Rabs are now alone atop the NIC-10 standings. Boylan fell to 4-3.

The Titans were able to contain Sha’den Clanton, holding him to six points. But Sincere Parker exploded for 27 and Chris Burnell, now the team’s point guard, scored 12 of his 13 points in the second half to lead the comeback.

East, which hasn’t won the NIC-10 boys basketball title since the 1980-1981 team that was led by Andre Goode and Allen Robinson, now is 3-0 in the NIC-10 and 7-0 overall. The E-Rabs already have raised expectations around the state. East was ranked 10th in 4A in the first Associated Press poll of the season.

Jefferson moved into a tie for second place with a 65-49 win over Hononegah at Jefferson. Jaquavion Robinson led the J-Hawks (2-1, 5-2) with 17 points and LaJuan Morris had 15.

Guilford also is tied for second after beating Belvidere 66-37. The Vikings also are 2-1, 5-2.

Jefferson 65, Hononegah 49

Jaquavion Robinson’s 10 3-point baskets pushed the Jefferson J-Hawks past Hononegah Wednesday in NIC-10 action at Jefferson High School. Lajuan Morris (15) and Latrell Graham (11) also scored in double figures for Jefferson. Nick Pierson poured in 24 for Hononegah.

Freeport 60, Belvidere North 50 (OT)

Freeport (1-6, 1-2) kept Belvidere North (3-4, 1-2) in check in regulation and ran away with the game in overtime to beat Belvidere North 60-50 for the Pretzels’ first win of the season Wednesday. Freeport outscored North 32-16 in the fourth quarter. Kijuan Burns scored 20 points for Freeport. Deron Lacy added 11 points. R.
