Body found outside of Rockford identified, death considered a homicide

UPDATE: Winnebago County Coroner Bill Hintz’s office reported Wednesday afternoon that Jamie Stephens died from multiple gunshot wounds.

ROCKFORD — The body found Monday in rural Winnebago County has been identified and police are investigating the death as a homicide.

The body of 31-year-old Rockford resident Jamie Stephens was discovered at around 1:15 p.m. Monday in the 9200 block of Knapp Road.

How Stephens died has not been disclosed, although Winnebago County Sheriff’s spokesmen say the body was dumped where it was found and that he was likely killed at another location.

According to social media posts, Stephens was last seen Friday, Dec.7, at a Mobil gas station.
