High School Hoops: East boys edge Auburn; Boylan girls bounce Belvidere

ROCKFORD — The East E-Rabs snatched a 65-61 win over Auburn Friday night to remain unbeaten in the NIC-10 Conference.

East was led by Chris Burnell’s 24 points; Sincere Parker scored 13. Joshua Ausler scored 14 for Auburn while  Justin Blake chipped in 13 in the back-and-forth contest.

East is now 6-0 in conference play and 10-0 overall. Auburn falls to 2-3 in the NIC-10 and 4-6 overall. The teams clash again Feb. 15 at Auburn.

In other NIC-10 action, Belvidere North used overtime to clip the Jefferson J-Hawks 63-58 and improve their conference record to 2-4. Anthony Espenson scored 19 points for the Blue Thunder. Latrell Graham and Jaquavion Robinson each netted 13 points for Jefferson.

In girls action, Reagan Ulrich scored 11 points as the Boylan Titans continued their unbeaten streak with a 49-25 handling of Belvidere. The Titans are now 6-0 in the NIC-10 and 10-0 on the campaign. Maya Smith scored 13 for the Bucs.

Harlem’s Julie Bailey nailed a three-pointer in the fourth quarter to lift the Huskies past the the Guilford Vikings 49-46 to improve to 3-3 in the NIC-10. Bailey finished the night with 14 points. Guilford falls to 1-5 in conference play. R.
