East sets new boys hoops record with 27-2 season mark

ROCKFORD — The East E-Rabs scored 60 points in the first half, taking the drama out of a showdown with second-place Harlem early, and cruised to a 88-59 win over the Huskies Feb. 13.

East improved to 27-2 on the year, setting a new school record for wins in a season. Sincere Parker led the E-Rabs with 21 points.

East is now 16-0 in the NIC-10. One more win and they’ll surpass the 1980-1981 East team that went undefeated when it was a nine-team conference. The next big hurdle is tonight when East tangles with 16-11 Auburn.

Jerry Stalcup, a Rockford East graduate who played football at Wisconsin and in the NFL, did a ceremonial jump ball at the Harlem-East game Wednesday. Stalcup taught and coached football at both East and Harlem.

In other action, Guilford improved to 15-13 on the season with a 60-40 win over Freeport and Jefferson topped Belvidere, 61-42, to improve to 15-14.

Rockford Public Schools boys basketball teams all are above .500 on the season. There hasn’t been a season where all RPS boys basketball teams were .500 or better since 1966-1967. R.
