Girls Track: Guilford shines at Auburn indoor meet

ROCKFORD – Guilford’s 800-meter relay team and junior high jumper Valerie Daehler won events Saturday at the Rockford Auburn Girls Showcase Invitational.

Daehler’s best jump Saturday was 5 feet, 4 inches, and she took first based on fewer misses.

The team of Marquoya Polite, Carreana Curtis, Shaniah Johnson and Maya Cable teamed up for the 800-meter win. Polite and Curtis are sophomores and Johnson and Cable are juniors. They ran the event in 1:52.01, beating Palatine’s 1:52.33.

Guilford had four other top-five finishes. Cable was fifth in the 60 meter dash. Polite was fourth in the 200 meters. Curtis teamed up with Riyyah Chatman, A’Yana Gray and Madeline Ingram to finish fourth in the 1,600 meter relay while Johnson took third in the triple jump.

Auburn’s best finish came from sophomore Taylor Wartell, who came in third in the 3,200 meters.

As a team, Guilford placed eighth out of 18 teams. Auburn finished 15th. R.
