Rockford man faces sexual assault charges

Staff Report

ROCKFORD — A Rockford man is now in custody in connection with a sexual assault that occurred in 2017 on the city’s east side, police announced Thursday.

Tareq Ahmad Alhmdan, 28, is charged with three counts of criminal sexual assault, unlawful restraint and battery, allegations that stem from a report on Sept. 30, 2017, that a woman had been assaulted in the 7300 block of Travertine Trail.

Detectives from the Rockford Police Department’s Sensitive Crimes Unit conducted a follow-up investigation which included the analysis of forensic evidence and interviews of several witnesses who were affiliated with the victim and the offender.

During the course of the investigation, detectives identified Alhmdan as a suspect. Charges were authorized against him by the Winnebago County State’s Attorney’s Office on Tuesday and he was arrested.

Alhmdan is being held without bond in the Winnebago County Jail. He’s scheduled to make his first court appearance May 9. R.
