AHL: IceHogs bumped from playoffs with loss to Wild

DES MOINES, Iowa — The Rockford IceHogs saw their playoff push come to an end after suffering a 3-0 loss to the Iowa Wild here Saturday.

Mason Shaw put the Wild on the board in the first period on a scrum in front of Rockford’s net. Anton Forsberg fended off the initial push, but Shaw collected a rebound in the confusion and flipped the puck over the IceHogs’ outstretched goalie for a 1-0 lead.

Gerarld Mayhew netted an insurance tally with a blast from the top of the left wing at 3:34 into the second period. Mayhew finishes the season series ranked second on Iowa in scoring against the IceHogs with seven points (2g, 5a) in eight contests.

Will Bitten tallied in the third for a 3-0 lead and Hammond finished with 25 saves to secure the win for Iowa.

Anton Forsberg turned aside 27 of 30 pucks in the loss, while Dylan Sikura recorded a game-high six shots on goal for the Hogs.

The IceHogs will conclude the 2018-19 season against the Milwaukee Admirals Sunday at the BMO Harris Bank Center.
