Inaugural girls high school tourney adds to June basketball fun

ROCKFORD — Auburn High School will host the inaugural Battle for the Castle on June 15, featuring 12 girls basketball teams from two states.

Auburn, East and Guilford will be representing RPS 205. Hononegah and Harlem will represent the NIC-10 Conference. The rest of the field will be Zion-Benton, Stillman Valley, Stockton, Dundee-Crown, Peoria Manuel and Normal Community from Illinois and Clinton High School from Wisconsin.

The one-day event will include at least 10 NCAA Division 1 prospects.

The Battle for the Castle will kick off three busy basketball weeks for Auburn High School. Auburn will be one of the host sites for the Chicagoland Summer Showcase tournaments on June 21-23 and June 28-30, which could draw as many as 350 teams from eight states to the Rockford region. R.
