ROCKFORD – The Rockford Police Department is investigating a fatal shooting that occurred on the city’s east side Thursday.

Police say the occurred in the 2100 block of Oregon Avenue, and that one victim, a man, was taken to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Authorities do not believe the incident was random. Police say the vicim and suspect knew each other.

The victim’s name is not being released at this time. The incident marks the city’s third homicide of the year.
