Illinois reports 1,173 new COVID-19 cases

CHICAGO – Illinois public health officials, on Monday, reported 1,173 new cases of COVID-19, the disease caused by the coronavirus.

There were 74 new deaths, including 60 people in Cook County, bringing the Illinois death toll to 794.

The majority of those who have succumbed to complications of COVID-19 are older than 60 with underlying health conditions that prevent them from recovering.

Other counties reporting deaths Monday were DuPage, Fayette, Jasper, Kane, Lake, McHenry and Will.

A total of 22,025 people have now tested positive for COVID-19 since since the pandemic started. The virus has now been confirmed in 87 of Illinois’ 102 counties.
