ROCKFORD – The Rockford Police Department is investigating a shooting that left a 21-year-man dead Saturday night on the city’s near-east side.

Police say the shooting happened at the Stop-N-Go, 2211 Charles St. The victim was transported to OSF Saint Anthony Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead just before 10 p.m.

It is not known if police have identified a suspect. The victim’s name is being withheld pending notification of his family.

The incident marks the city’s seventh homicide of the year and the second fatal shooting at a Rockford gas station this week. Last Wednesday, one person died after five people were shot at the Citgo Way Low, 2914 W. State St.

The Rock River Times will have more on this story as it develops.
