Blackhawks agree to extension with Andreas Martinsen

CHICAGO — One of the forwards who helped the Rockford IceHogs reach the AHL Western Conference Finals has signed a contract extension with the Chicago Blackhawks.

The Blackhawks announced Thursday they have agreed to terms on a one-year deal with Andreas Martinsen that runs through the 2018-19 NHL season.

Martinsen, 27, came to the Blackhawks on Oct. 4, 2017, via a trade with the Montreal Canadiens. Martinsen appeared in nine game with Montreal in 2016-17 and 110 contests over parts of two seasons with the Colorado Avalanche. He skated in nine games with Chicago last season before coming back to join the IceHogs for their playoff run.




Martinsen recorded 28 points (12G, 16A) in 64 games with the IceHogs last season In the club’s 13 games in the 2018 Calder Cup Playoffs, he recorded two goals and three assists.

He became the eighth Norwegian to play in the NHL after making his debut on Nov. 10, 2015, and the first to ever play for the Blackhawks on March 20, 2018. R.
