Icy weather to return to northern Illinois Thursday night

ROCKFORD — Rain and rapidly falling temperatures will lead to icy conditions Thursday night, as a Winter Weather Advisory has been called for most of northern Illinois.

Mild midday temps are expected to fall below freezing by drivetime Thursday as rain moves into the area. Untreated roadways and sidewalks will become hazardous around the 5-6 p.m. commute and wind chill readings will be near zero by evening.

A rapidly approaching cold front will bring on the dangerous travel conditions, with the weather advisory in place until midnight.
