IceHogs win in home return

BMO HARRIS BANK CENTER — A win at home would have been the perfect exclamation point for the Rockford IceHogs after a successful six-game road trip.

Andreas Martinsen, Tanner Kero, Gustav Forsling and Adam Clendening made that happen in the third period Tuesday as Rockford downed the Bakersfield Condors 4-1.

Bakersfield scored early and led 1-0 until the final frame. That’s when the IceHogs fired off three goals in a little more than seven minutes. Clendening added the empty-net dagger with 2:24 left.

After giving up first goal of the contest, Rockford finally knotted the score just 48 seconds into the third period. Martinsen took a Matthew Highmore pass in stride before tucking the puck above Bakersfield goaltender Laurent Brossoit’s shoulder. Martinsen now has points in six of his last seven games.

Fewer than seven minutes later, Tanner Kero potted a loose rebound in front of the net to boost the IceHogs to their first lead of the game. Within another minute, Forsling, in his 2017-18 debut with the ‘Hogs, notched his first goal of the season on a rush to double Rockford advantage.

Forsling capped his night with a goal and a game-high eight shots on net.

Brossoit finished with an impressive 40 saves in defeat. Rockford’s Collin Delia stopped 23 shots to earn his fourth win in his last five starts. R.
