DeKALB — Northern Illinois University says it’s looking for a naming rights partner for the school’s 10,000-seat NIU Convocation Center.

NIU athletic director Sean Frazier said Monday that the official proposal seeking potential partners has been posted to the state procurement website. The center is home to Huskies men’s and women’s basketball and volleyball games. It also hosts events like concerts, trade shows, graduations and job fairs. Officials say it has nearly 215,000 visitors annually.

Frazier says seeking naming rights for the center “is an important step as we look to maximize the potential revenue generation for NIU athletics and the university.” Frazier says the school feels confident the center will have naming rights interest from local, regional and national brands.

The $36 million facility was completed in 2002.
