Rockford man charged with home invasion

ROCKFORD — A Rockford man was arrested after a home invasion that occurred on the city’s northwest side over the weekend.

Shaquille Byrd, 24, faces charges of home invasion and criminal damage to property. The allegations come after Rockford Police officers responded to possible domestic violence call in the 2600 block of Halsted Road at 4:18 a.m. Sunday. The caller told dispatchers the suspect was a black male wearing a gray hoodie and walked away from the residence.

Police discovered the front door of the victim’s home was broken and an adult female with visible non-life-threatening injuries was inside. The woman told officers she had a prior domestic relationship with Byrd and that he broke into her residence, battered her and stole electronic devices.

Byrd was located walking near the scene and arrested. Police say he was in possession of electronic devices. He is currently lodged in the Winnebago County Jail without bond. R.
