Rockford men face gun charges

ROCKFORD — Two Rockford men were jailed on weapons charges after a shots-fired incident on the city’s west side.

At around 2 a.m. Friday, Jan. 26, Rockford Police officers responded to the 1700 block of North Winnebago Street in reference to several gunshots being fired in the area. There, officers made contact with 30-year-old Christopher Carter and 27-year-old Joey Sanchez, who were seated in a vehicle in the driveway at 1720 N. Winnebago St.




During the course of the investigation, officers located and recovered a .40 caliber handgun from Carter’s vehicle and numerous .40 caliber shell casings on the ground near the residence.

Police reports were was reviewed by the Winnebago County State’s Attorney’s Office. As a result, Carter as charged with reckless discharge of a firearm. Sanchez faces the same charge and was also cited for possession of a firearm without a FOID. R.
