Man wanted in 2017 sexual assault arrested

ROCKFORD — A Rockford man wanted in connection with a 2017 sexual assault of an underage victim was arrested Wednesday.

Jose Casas, 43, has been charged with two counts of predatory criminal sexual assault. Rockford Police Lt. Kurt Whisenand said the charges stem from an incident involving a 13-year-old female that occurred in October 2017 in the 4800 block of Clearsky Drive. That’s where Whisenand said the Sensitive Crimes Unit began its investigation.

The unit’s finding were later reviewed by the Winnebago County State’s Attorney’s Office, and an arrest warrant was issued. Casas was taken into custody Wednesday, Feb. 14 without incident. He is lodged in the Winnebago County Jail. Bond has been set at $150,000. His next court date is March 22. R.
