Son charged in stabbing death of father

ROCKFORD— A Rockford man is being held without bond in the death of his father after a stabbing incident on the city’s southwest side Tuesday.

Justin T. Joiner, 21, is charged with two counts of first-degree murder and two counts of aggravated domestic battery in the death of 52-year-old David Joiner.




Rockford Police Lt. Kurt Whisenand said officers responded to the 1400 block of Christina Street at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday and located David Joiner suffering from a stab wound. He was transported to Mercyhealth Hospital and pronounced dead at 10:07 p.m. Justin Joiner was taken into custody at the scene. Murder charges were filed against him Wednesday.

Officials say the incident was the second time police were called to the residence this week. They were there early Monday to perform welfare check.

David Joiner’s is the city’s first homicide of 2018.

Justin Joiner is scheduled to appear in court Thursday. R.
