Heavy rains lead to flooding concerns for area

ROCKFORD — Showers and the occasional thunderstorm are expected Monday and Tuesday, as warmer temps and more heavy fog move into the area.

Flood Watches have been issued along the Rock, Pecatonica and Kishwaukee rivers as up to 2 inches of rain could fall by Tuesday night, causing runoff concerns for already saturated ground from the weekend snowmelt.

Thunderstorms are possible Monday afternoon and evening, with isolated areas receiving up to 4 inches of rain. Creeks and rivers will see high water levels with some reaching flood stage.

Rain will give way to mixed precipitation Tuesday as temperatures drop off from the low- to-mid-50s back to freezing on Wednesday. Afternoon drivetime will see slick roads as the rainfall slows.

Light rain is possible Thursday as temps hold in the low-40s for the rest of the week.
