2 students arrested after verbal threat at Auburn High School
ROCKFORD — Two students were taken into custody at Auburn High School Friday after police followed up on a report of a verbal threat involving a weapon.
The school was then placed on lockdown while officers searched the building. School officials say police did recover a weapon but that students and staff are safe and classes have resumed.
The identities of the students arrested are being withheld.
The incident follows a slight uptick in area school threats since a gunman opened fire Feb. 14 at a high school in Parkland, Florida. Since that shooting, threats have been reported at Rochelle and Belvidere North high schools. Students have been charged in those incidents but no injuries were reported. R.
