ROCKFORD — A Rockford Police officer suffered minor injuries Saturday night when the driver of a vehicle he stopped for a traffic infraction allegedly attempted to disarm him.

Police say the officer conducted the routine stop at around 9 p.m., in the 300 block of Waldo Street. The driver, identified as 29-year-old Duane Brown, exited the vehicle and attempted to run into a nearby house.

A struggle ensued and police say Brown grabbed the officer’s holstered gun and tried to pull it out. The struggle continued until Brown was taken into custody by responding officers.

Brown has been charged with attempt to disarm a police officer, aggravated battery of a police officer, resisting arrest, criminal damage to property, driving on a revoked license and disregarding a stop sign. He’s lodged in the Winnebago County Jail without bond. R.
