ROCKFORD — Three people were shot and killed early Saturday inside a privately chartered party bus on the city’s west side.
Rockford Police Chief Dan O’Shea said officers were dispatched to the Mobil station at 453 N. Springfield Ave., at around 3:25 a.m. The bus was parked in a fuel lane; officers found the three victims inside.
While details are still unclear, officials say the shooter may have been part of the group that rented the bus from Private Exclusive Entertaining.
“A suspect on the bus shot other individuals on the bus,” O’Shea said during a news conference. “At this time, it’s an active investigation.”
O’Shea said the shooting happened when the bus was in the area of Auburn Street and Johnston Avenue. It then traveled to the gas station and the driver called 911.
A description of the suspect has not been released as of this report. O’Shea said anyone with information should call the Rockford Police Department at 815-966-2900 or Crime Stoppers at 815-963-7867.
The identities of the victims are being withheld pending notification of their families.
