ROCKFORD — A Rockford man surrendered to police Friday after a six-hour standoff on the city’s northwest side.

At at approximately 3:45 a.m., Rockford Police officers responded to a report of a subject armed with a handgun breaking into an apartment in the 900 block of Grant Avenue. Responding officers discovered the suspect, later identified as 28-year-old Torey Adams, barricaded himself in the attic of the residence and refused to come out.

Members of the Rockford Police Department’s S.W.A.T. and Hostage Negotiation teams responded, and at approximately 9:30 a.m., Adams surrendered without incident. Officers searched the residence and did not recover a handgun.  No one was injured.

Adams is related to the tenant of the apartment. He was arrested for felony criminal trespassing and is currently lodged in the Winnebago County Jail without bond. Adams was also wanted on three outstanding warrants: possession of a controlled substance, disorderly conduct and fleeing to elude.

The incident is the second standoff with Rockford police in as many days. R.
