ROCKFORD — An Elgin man faces charges in Winnebago County for the alleged sexual assault of a child last month.

Police say on May 21, a Rockford Police Department school resource officer was notified about a possible sexual assault at a residence in the 1200 block of Chestnut Street. Initial information indicated that a child younger than 13 had been sexually assaulted by an adult male friend of the victim’s family, police reported Friday.

After a follow-up investigation, an arrest warrant was issued for 24-year-old Jesus Pena Jr.

Pena was arrested Wednesday, May 30, and is lodged in the Winnebago County Jail. He’s been charged with two counts of predatory criminal sexual assault and four counts of aggravated sexual abuse.

Bond has been set $150,000. Pena is due in court June 21. R.
