Blackhawks trade J-F Berube to Columbus for Jordan Schroeder

CHICAGO – The Chicago Blackhawks on Wednesday announced that they have traded goaltender Jean-Francois Berube to the Columbus Blue Jackets in exchange for forward Jordan Schroeder.

Berube made 13 appearances with the Blackhawks during the 2017-18 season, compiling a record of 3-6-1 with a 3.78 goals against average (GAA) and a .894 save percentage. He also saw action in 15 games for the Rockford IceHogs. Before coming to Chicago, the 26-year-old appeared in 21 games for the New York Islanders over two seasons.

Schroeder, 27, spent time last season with the Columbus Blue Jackets and Cleveland Monsters of the American Hockey League. In 48 regular-season games for the Monsters, he recorded 36 points (14G, 22A). His 22 assists shared second on the team and his 36 points were third. Additionally, Schroeder posted a goal and an assist in 21 games with the Blue Jackets during the 2017-18 campaign.




Originally drafted by the Vancouver Canucks in the first round of the 2009 National Hockey League Draft, Schroeder has tallied 42 points (18G, 24A) in 165 career regular-season games with the Canucks (2012-14), Minnesota Wild (2014-17) and Blue Jackets (2017-18). He also skated in five Stanley Cup Playoff games for the Wild, registering a goal. In 340 career regular-season AHL contests, Schroeder has totaled 231 points (91G, 140A), as well as five goals and nine helpers in 25 postseason games.

The Lakeville, Minnesota, native has represented the United States on the international circuit on six separate occasions. Most recently, he recorded an assist in nine games during the 2016 World Championship. Schroeder served as an alternate captain and had eight points (3G, 5A) en route to a Gold Medal at the 2010 World Junior Championship. He also won a Silver Medal at the 2007 U18 World Junior Championship and Bronze in 2008. R.
