Rockford Police ranks highest in state for DUI arrests

Winnebago County also leads Illinois.

Staff Report

ROCKFORD – The Rockford Police Department made the most DUI arrests in Illinois last year, according to the survey that tracks those statistics.

The survey shows Rockford Police made 490 driving under the influence arrests in 2017,  72 more than the Elgin Police Department, which ranks No. 2. on the list compiled by the Alliance Against Intoxicated Motorists. Rounding out the Top 10 are Decatur, Cicero, Aurora, Lombard, Carol Stream, Springfield, Naperville and Normal. Chicago is not in Rockford’s category because of its size.

With 5.54 arrests per deputy, the Winnebago County Sheriff’s Office logged the highest arrest rate last year. The rest of that list includes McClean, McHenry, DeKalb, Lake, Will and Cook counties, respectively.

The alliance has been compiling DUI statistics since 2006. R.
