Suspect wanted in battery of 71-year-old Rockford man

ROCKFORD – An arrest warant been issued for a Rockford man who police say battered an elderly man last month.

Mecose D. Johnson, 29, is wanted on charges of aggravated battery of a senior citizen.

Police say the incident occurred Friday, June 29, in the 500 block of Seminary Street. Patrol officers were called to the scene shortly after 7 p.m., and spoke with a 71-year-old man who said he’d been battered by a man later identified as Johnson. The investigation was later reviewed by the Winnebago County State’s Attorney’s Office, and charges were authorized and a warrant was issued for his arrest.




Initial bond has been set at $25,000. Johnson is still at large.
