ROCKFORD – Two Rockford teens were jailed for allegedly beating and robbing an elderly man downtown last week.

Police say the incident took place at 10 p.m. Wednesday in the 100 block of East State Street, near City Market. That’s where the victim was surrounded by a group teens, some on bikes. One of the teens punched the man in the head and stole his bag before fleeing the scene.

Police located two of the suspects that night; 18-year-old Keion Jackson was arrested near Wyman and Elm streets. A 14-year-old male was also taken into custody.

Jackson has been charged with robbery, aggravated battery of a police officer, damaging property, and resisting arrest. He is being held without bond. The 14-year-old faces similar charges.

Police say the investigation is ongoing but they have not announced additional suspects. R.
