ROCKFORD – A body discovered in the Rock River Wednesday is male, officials reported Thursday.

Winnebago County Coroner Bill Hintz said although it is badly decomposed, there doesn’t appear to be any trauma to the body.

Fishermen discovered the remains Wednesday afternoon near the 50 block of Airport Drive. The name of the victim or a cause of death is not known.

The case is being investigated by the Winnebago County Sheriff’s Office. Anyone with information about the case is asked to call the sheriff at 815-282-2600 or Crime Stoppers at 815-963-7867.
