ROCKFORD – A fatal shooting that occurred on Rockford’s east side Wednesday night is now a murder investigation, Rockford Police spokesmen reported Thursday.

Police say the shooting happened around 6 p.m., outside of a residence in the 4500 block of Newburg Road, where two victims were discovered.

A 28-year-old man was pronounced dead at a local hospital. A 20-year-old woman suffered serious but non-life threatening wounds.

Police say the incident is isolated, and there is no threat to the public. The Rock River Times will have more on this story as it develops.
