Rockford’s Co-Lin Metals Fabricating expands

Staff Report

ROCKFORD – A Rockford manufacturer celebrating its 60th year in business doubled its manufacturing space after an October acquisition.

Co-Lin Metals Fabricating Inc. acquired the assets of HLAVA Industrial Welding and its building at 5295 28th Ave., Rockford. The acquisition added additional staff, equipment, and much needed room to grow.

Co-Lin was founded in 1958 by the Cottrell family of Rockford, who ran the business until selling it to Stephen and Michael Hedlund in 2015. Michael has worked at Co-Lin for nearly 40 years. Stephen worked at Co-Lin in the summers while finishing college at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville.

The company is a full-service, custom fabricating shop that specializes in industrial cabinets, machine guards, custom weldments and stainless-steel weldments. Its diversified customer base includes many of the area’s most respected manufacturers.

“Owning a small business in Rockford has been a blessing and we are grateful for the opportunity,” Stephen Hedlund said. “The Rockford community has been very supportive as we continue to grow and expand; and it’s been a real pleasure working together with everyone who has helped us achieve our goals.”  R.
