Man charged with stealing from Stateline Chamber of Commerce

Staff Report

ROCKFORD — The former executive director of the Stateline Chamber of Commerce has been charged with stealing from the organization, Winnebago County State’s Attorney Marilyn Hite Ross announced Wednesday.

Jason Walters, 36, is charged with theft, a Class 2 felony. The charge stems from an investigation started Dec. 14, 2017, by the Roscoe Police Department into possible suspicious activity in the chamber’s accounts.

Prosecutors say there were multiple ATM withdrawals and Paypal transactions that were not authorized. Walters was identified as a suspect during a follow-up investigation.

Waters was hired as director of the Stateline Chamber in October 2017. He is not in custody as of this report.

The Stateline Chamber of Commerce serves businesses in Roscoe, Rockton and South Beloit. R.
