Rockford man gets 28 years in prison for sexually abusing kids who attended his wife’s day care

Staff Report

ROCKFORD — A Rockford man was sentenced to nearly three decades in prison for sexually abusing children who attended his wife’s private day care.

David Seaton, 55, was sentenced Monday to 28 years behind bars. He was found guilty in 2017 of one count of predatory criminal sexual assault of a child and three counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse.

In January 2015, Winnebago County Sheriff’s Detectives conducted an investigation into allegations of sexual abuse by two victims who were under the age of 13. The abuse occurred between February 2000 and February 2005. At the time of the offenses, Seaton’s wife owned and operated an in-home day care called Pam’s Daycare.

Predatory criminal sexual assault of a child is a Class X felony, punishable by a sentence of six to 30 years in prison. Seaton was sentenced to 16 years for that offense. He was sentenced to four years on each count of aggravated criminal sexual abuse, a Class 2 Felony, punishable by three to seven years behind bars.

Seaton’s sentences will run consecutively. He will also be required to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life. R.
