Frank Haney announces he won’t seek second term as county board chairman

ROCKFORD — Winnebago County Board Chairman Frank Haney on Thursday announcement that he will not seek a second term.

Haney made the announcement at the Tebala Event Center during his 2019 State of the County address.

Haney has been at the center of controversy since he succeeded Scott Christiansen. He often locked horns with Sheriff Gary Caruana over the sheriff’s budget. That was followed by heated battle with the board, who later voted to strip him of a significant amount of his powers.

Haney’s term ends in December 2020.

The Rock River Times will have more on this story as it develops. R.
