Rockford man accused of battering 2 children

ROCKFORD — A Rockford man faces new charges after two children are hospitalized.

Police say the incident happened at around 5 p.m., Friday in the 800 block of Ferguson Street. Two children, both under 13 had been battered and sustained serious, but not life-threatening injuries.

Shortly before 7 p.m., police located 22-year-old Trevor Hasselmann, who is in a domestic relationship with the children’s mother, at home in the 500 block of Short 3rd Street

The suspect was identified as 22- year-old Trevor Hasselmann, who shares a domestic relationship with the children’s mother. Shortly before 7:00 p.m., he was located at a residence in the 500 block of Short 3rd Street and taken into custody on an unrelated warrant.

The Winnebago County State’s Attorney’s Office reviewed the case Monday and charged Hasselmann with two counts of battery of a child. He is also charged with armed robbery, domestic battery and resisting arrest.

Hasselman is being held without bond at the Winnebago County Jail. He’s due in court May 9.
