Men charged with intentionally hitting assistant deputy chief’s personal vehicle

ROCKFORD – Two men have been indicted for allegedly slamming a vehicle into one occupied by an assistant deputy chief of the Rockford Police Department on the near-east side earlier this year.

The incident happened on Jan. 20, near 530 Eighth St., where investigators determined that a vehicle, drove directly into Assistant Deputy Chief Carla Redd’s personal vehicle while she was seated in the driver’s seat. Redd fired her department issued service weapon at the defendants as they drove into her at a high rate of speed.

Alexandro N. Elmore, 30, and Alexandro Marquez, 20, were indicted by grand jury on charges of aggravated assault, attempt aggravated battery, mob action, obstructing justice, criminal damage to property, and leaving the scene of an accident involving damage to a vehicle. Elmore was also charged with driving on a suspended license.

The Winnebago-Boone County Integrity Task Force investigated Redd’s use of deadly force following the incident. The Winnebago County State’s Attorney’s Office determined her actions were justified. No one was injured.
