Rockford Police announces block parties, sports fair

ROCKFORD – The Rockford Police Department, on Wednesday, will host its first block party of the season at the Eighth Avenue Strong Neighborhoods House, 908 Eighth Ave.

The United Way of Rock River Valley and KFACT have teamed up with RPD to offer free games, activities and refreshments from 4 to 6 p.m. Wednesday’s event is the first in a series that aims to bring officers and the community together. The next block party will beThursday, June 20, at the Irving Avenue Strong Neighborhoods House, 312 Irving Ave.

The Rockford Police Department The 2019 Sports Fair will be from noon to 3 p.m., Friday, June 14, at District 1 Headquarters. The event is open to all ages.

“Whether you want to shoot hoops with officers, hit a homerun, or even hula hoop, there’s something for everyone to enjoy outside with RPD,” the department said in a release. “Fuel up with hot dogs before the games get underway, and cool down with some snow cones.”

Police District 1 is at 1045 W. State St.
