BOYS HOOPS: Jefferson finishes second in East Summer League
Staff Report
ROCKFORD – The Jefferson J-Hawks showed they should be in the mix for the NIC-10 title in the upcoming basketball season by taking second in the East High School Summer League Tuesday night.
The J-Hawks capped the monthlong league with a 7-3 record, playing most of the month without Latrell Graham, who averaged 14 points per game as a sophomore.
Graham was back for the summer tournament, and the J-Hawks crushed overmatched squads from South Beloit and Janesville Parker on Monday night. Jefferson then rallied from an early 16-6 deficit against Lutheran to beat the Crusaders, 49-39.
Jefferson fell to Hononegah 62-57 in the finals.
Combined with strong play this past weekend in the Chicagoland Summer Showcase, the J-Hawks showed they are one of several teams with realistic shots to win the NIC-10 next season.
All three RPS 205 teams playing in the summer league played well. Auburn went 8-2 overall, while East went 7-3 as well.
