ROCKFORD – A Roscoe woman, on Wednesday, pleaded guilty to having sex with a 12-year-old boy.

Gina M. Colwell, 41, pleaded guilty to a single count of predatory criminal sexual assault of a child, a charge she faced in a four-count complaint. The other three charges were dismissed.

Colwell’s plea comes a day after a 402 conference, during which Judge Brendan Maher said he indicated to defense attorney Aaron Buscemi that he would likely sentence her to six years in prison if she was found guilty at trial. Six years is the mandatory minimum sentence for predatory criminal sexual assault of a child, a Class X felony. The offense is non-probationable.

According to the criminal complaint, Colwell had multiple sexual encounters, including intercourse and oral sex, with the victim between Nov. 24, 2014 and Feb. 20, 2016. In total, prosecutors said Colwell had sex with the boy “30 or 40 times,” including once when he was at her home watching television.

Colwell also faces a single count of aggravated criminal sexual abuse in a pending case involving a 13-year-old boy prosecutors say she abused between Dec. 31, 2015 and Jan. 1, 2016. In that incident, Colwell allegedly had the victim stimulate her sexually with his hand. Aggravated criminal sexual abuse is a Class 2 felony, punishable by two to seven years in prison.

The case involving the 12-year-old victim was set for trial next week. That trial is now canceled, and Colwell will be sentenced in August.

Colwell is scheduled to appear Monday, July 8, in the case involving the 13-year-old. Maher said any imposed prison terms would be served consecutively. Colwell remains free on bond.
