Arrests made in weekend incidents

ROCKFORD – Seven people were arrested in Rockford and charged with various between Friday, July 19 and Sunday, July 21. 

At approximately 6:30 p.m., Friday,  Rockford Police SCOPE officers conducted a traffic stop at Kishwaukee Street and 17th Avenue on a vehicle that made an improper turn. During the course of the stop, officers observed two baggies of a substance believed to be cannabis that totaled approximately 140 grams.

Officers also located a scale, several empty plastic baggies, and more than $2,500 in cash. The passenger of the vehicle, identified as 29-year-old Maurice Jermon Jr., was taken into custody without incident. The driver was issued a traffic citation and released from the scene. Jermon was charged with possession with intent to deliver cannabis. 

Shortly before midnight Friday, SCOPE officers responded to the 700 block of Kent Street in reference to a reported weapons violation and located two male suspects outside a residence. Police say one of the suspects throw what was later determined to be a handgun on the ground near the residence. Officers recovered the loaded handgun, which also had a laser and extended magazine. Another handgun was recovered from a vehicle parked at the residence along with ammunition. Both suspects, 18-year-old Victor Gonzalez and 21-year-old Edgar Rodriguez, were taken into custody without incident.

Rodriguez, of Rockford, is charged with unlawful use of weapons by a felon, unlawful use of weapons by a gang member and no FOID. Gonzalez, of Rockford, is charged with unlawful use of weapons by a gang member and no FOID.

At around 3 p.m., Sunday, patrol officers responded to a domestic dispute in the 1400 block of Seminary Street and located a 42-year-old female suffering from multiple stab wounds to the
arm. She was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Officers learned a fight occurred between the victim and several other women, one of whom had been in a domestic relationship with the victim. Officers took three women into custody without incident.

Danielle Mitchell, 30, of Rockford, is charged with aggravated battery with a knife, aggravated battery in a public way, aggravated battery causing bodily harm and mob action. Shaqueita Cooper, 28, of Rockford, and 28-year-old Rockford resident Desree Cannon face the same charges.

All suspects were lodged in the Winnebago County Jail.
