RMTD cuts ribbon on new downtown bus station

ROCKFORD – Mayor Tom McNamara on Wednesday, joined U.S. Rep. Cheri Bustos and other state and local officials to cut the ribbon on the newly renovated Rockford Mass Transit District downtown passenger terminal.

The $8.3 million project nearly doubled the size of the facility to 5,400 square feet and now includes indoor seating for 65 passengers, a family restroom and a redesigned covered driving area for easier boarding.

The project was paid for with $5 million from the State of Illinois and $3.3 million from the federal government. No local taxpayer dollars were used. The project used 75 contractors and suppliers; the majority were local businesses.
