Rockford man detains burglary suspect

Staff Report

ROCKFORD – A Rockford man detained a burglary suspect Monday night after the suspect allegedly stole items from a garage on the city’s northwest side.

Police say at around 10 p.m., officers responded to a home in the 3300 block of Louise Street for a report of an in-progress burglary. When officers arrived, they spoke to a 38-year-old man who said he caught the suspect stealing items from cars parked in a detached garage. The man detained the suspect in the backyard and called police.

Police say the suspect, Rodriguez Bunton, 45, entered the victims’s detached garage and took a purse and other items from the vehicles. Officers recovered the victim’s belongings and a metal pipe commonly used for crack cocaine from the suspect.

Bunton, of Rockford, was arrested at the scene. He is charged with burglary, two counts of burglary to a motor vehicle and possession of drug paraphernalia.  He is lodged without bond in the Winnebago County Jail. No injuries were reported.
